Castello di Verrazzano - Tasting 1 of 3

Monday, September 21
Our guide, Constanza, picked us up in San Gimignamo a little bit late. We had a full day of wine tastings ahead with plans to make three stops. Our first was a large estate producer of Chianti Classico located between Florence and Siena. This is the official chianti classico region in Italy. Look for the black rooster on the bottle neck to show that the wine was produced here. We enjoyed a four course lunch and tasting with our table mates from Atlanta and New York, but the afternoon was passing quickly and we had more places to get to. After our wine purchase, we excused ourselves for the next stop.

Many of the vineyards were being harvested during our visit in September and as we drove through the countryside, we saw vines loaded with red and white grapes, trucks hauling grapes and workers picking the grapes even late in the day. The scenery is just like it is shown in travel brochures... a patchwork quilt of shades of green laying on hillsides in an organized display.
