Disembarking the Musica

We're enjoying the view of Venice from the top deck as we wait to disembark. It is a quiet Sunday morning and several ships are arriving in port.

We sailed from Athens to Katakolon on Friday and took an excursiion from the ship to Olympia, about 30 minutes away. The first olympics were held here around 400 BC. We envisioned the athletes and the crowds as we walked around the ruins. Our own marathoners (Joe and Rocky) ran a race while the crowd cheered. On the way back to the ship we rewarded ourselves with gyros, Greek salad and beer. A fitting way to end our visit to Greece. Yeia sas A beautiful cake was delivered to our table in the evening to celebrate Barb's birthday.

On Saturday morning we arrived in Dubrovnik, Croatia. The scenery of this part of the cruise was some of the most beautiful. Many islands are scattered around showing white chalky cliffs, pine trees, palm trees and lighthouses. We took a cab into the Old City and walked along the medieval wall. The walk is a series of stairs going up and down and around every bend is a rewardiing ocean vista or charmimg city street or courtyard. This is another place we agree we would like to return to someday. The people have endured many wars including the Croatian war in 1991, but the city has been restored to its full beauty. We take another cab to the nearest beach where we finally get to swim. The water was as cold as a Minnesota lake but so clear you could see at least 10 ft.

On our last night on board, we say goodbye to our new friends from New Zealand and Austrailia, with a hope to meet again on a future trip.

Now we're on to Tuscany for part 2 of this journey. We've done so much already, we can't believe we've only been gone 1 week! Our pictures from Olympia and Dubrovnik will be posted soon. Ciao!
